The family friendly Grand Hyatt Hotel Singapore

This is the hotel I most often stay in with my family when in Singapore.

It has a fantastic city centre location-just around the corner from Orchard rd and all its shops. Singapore is a good walking city and Grand Hyatt has a premium location in the middle of it all. Our family will often wander across the road from the hotel to my favourite shopping centre, Ion, and head to the amazing lower level Food Court. This makes for a great value and good quality meal in an otherwise expensive city.

There is nothing like walking back into the calm of the 5 star Grand Hyatt after the frenetic pace of this city. The hotel is typical of Grand Hyatt in muted colours and blonde woods. There are 2 different towers with rooms in one tower and the suites in another. It simple means a different lift from the lobby to each tower. The tower with rooms also has the gym, outdoor pool and restaurant.

The pool area is not huge but is adequate for a city hotel and does include a children’s wading pool and a decent number of sun loungers. The Oasis Restaurant is next to the pool and has a casual vibe. We have often dined here with the kids as they do a great BBQ buffet dinner although they also do a la carte and pool snacks such as burgers and satays. The kids have also received free vouchers for an ice-cream at this restaurant and it’s smart because it keeps us coming back here for another meal so the kids can redeem their ice-cream voucher.

The rooms are all incredibly spacious and well laid out with a good work space and I love the June Jacobs bathroom amenities- the cleansing bar is divine. Suites are best for families and the Grand Deluxe 2 bedroom suite has one king bedroom and the other with twin beds as well as living area and 2 flat screen TV’s so plenty of room for the whole family.

Grand Hyatt has a fantastic line up of restaurants and bars but we have found the most kid friendly to be the Italian Restaurant, Pete’s Place. They have a Kids Menu that doubles as a colouring page and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the price of SGD$10 plus tax for a kids meal is hard to beat!

I always get a Club Lounge room or suite here as I find the Club Lounge incredibly good value.

We always choose to have breakfast at the Club Lounge rather than the general restaurant as it is less crowded and the service is fantastic in the Lounge. They have a buffet style breakfast but hot items such as bacon and eggs are made to order.

There are snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks available through the day and then in the evening there are cocktails, alcoholic drinks and canapes. We always come here and have a few drinks before going out to dinner. Although the canapes are so substantial that sometimes we haven’t even needed to go out to dinner. There is a small room off the Club Lounge that has a TV, a few tables and chairs and a few toys and this is where we usually sit so the kids are occupied while we enjoy our cocktails!

The Concierge are really helpful and have helped us with tours, taxis, left luggage and which bus to catch to all the family friendly attractions such as Singapore Zoo and Universal Studios.
