Internazionale Domus

About

Great value accommodation in the very heart of Rome by The Spanish Steps. It is only a small hotel in a lovely old building and is up a few floors from street level so doesn’t seem to get much noise. (there is an elevator).   Super helpful staff -they’re great at corresponding by email before your stay and equally good at providing help once you’re there.

Location

That’s one of the best things about this place- the absolutely amazing location on Piazza di Spagna right next to The Spanish Steps in the heart of Rome! You can walk to shops, restaurants and many of the sights of Rome.

Rooms

They have a few family friendly accommodation options.

Triple Deluxe Suite is for a small family with double or twin beds plus a single sofa bed.

The Pierret Deluxe Suite that overlooks the Piazza di Spagna complete with frescoed ceilings, kitchenette and 2 bedrooms (beds can be double or singles)  and bathrooms (1 with bathtub and other with shower).

Margutta Deluxe Loft- this is in a separate location on Via Margutta-only a 5 minute walk to Internazionale Domus and is I think the prettiest street in Rome. The apartment is up many winding steps and a few dark looking corridors so wouldn’t be suitable for young families but for older families could work as has a mezzanine with double bed and then lounge with sofa bed and kitchenette and it’s crowning glory is the lovely outside terrace with tables and chairs.

Check In time                    2pm

Check Out time                 11am

Dining

No dining within the hotel but there are so many fantastic options a short walk from the hotel and the hotel will provide you with great recommendations. The hotel has a deal with the next door Babington’s Tea Rooms and they can provide breakfast at a special rate.

Facilities

Free wi fi

Laundry and ironing service (at additional charge) I always struggle with no irons in the rooms in Italy!

Why they’re good for families

This is where we stayed last time we took the kids to Rome and it is a magic location just off the Spanish Steps. The staff were incredibly helpful and efficient and before you arrive they send you a list of optional tours and recommended restaurants so you can start to get excited about your holiday. You can book transfers, tours and babysitting with them.

Piazetta Margutta

About

Piazetta Margutta Apartments are located in my favourite street in Rome, Via Margutta.  I have loved Via Margutta ever since I saw Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn go to his apartment on Via Margutta in the movie Roman Holiday (one of my favourite movies). It is a gorgeous cobbled street in the heart of Rome but feels somehow removed from the hustle and bustle- probably because it is a pedestrian only street and is filled with great art galleries, shops and restaurants.

The Apartments have 1,2 or 3 bedrooms and some come with terrace (I would recommend the ones with terraces).

Location

These apartments on Via Margutta are very central to shops (there is a small supermarket a few minutes walk away), restaurants and the sights of Rome.

Rooms

1-bedroom apartments can sleep 4 people with 1 x double bed and 1 x sofa bed.

2-bedroom apartments can sleep 6 people with 2 x double bed and 1 x sofa bed.

3-bedroom apartments can sleep 7 people with 2 x double bed, 1 x single bed and 1 x sofa bed.

All apartments have kitchenette, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher and safe.

Check in/out time

Check in time is from 2pm-7pm and you need to let the property know in advance what time you will arrive.

Check out time is 10am.

Dining

Babette Restaurant is located in the courtyard and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (closed Mondays)

Facilities

Free wi-fi

Airport shuttle at extra cost

Maid service is provided every 7 nights but you can pay for extra cleans if needed

Why they’re good for families

They’re great for families as they offer space to spread out and the ability to have some meals at home so you don’t need to eat out every meal. Also if you’ve been travelling for a while or have young kids then the washer and dryer are a huge bonus. They’re also in a really safe yet central location.

Gran Melia Rome

About

This hotel is 5 star all the way. It has a good city location, lovely rooms, top notch service but the highlight has to be the outdoor pool and garden-absolutely bliss at the end of a long summers day sightseeing.

Location

The hotel is on a hill overlooking the Tiber River and is a short walk to the bohemian Trastevere area (make sure to go to dinner at buzzy pizza restaurant, Ai Marmi in Trastevere) , the Vatican, Piazza Navona and Campo de’ Fiori.

Rooms

This has got to be the ultimate family room in Rome-it’s named Family kids and co room and is located on the top floor of the hotel with amazing views over Rome & The Vatican. The room itself is set over 2 floors with an adult bedroom on the first floor and kids area (up to 10 years) on the 2nd floor complete with pop up tent, TV and Wii (on request) and a KIDS security system.

Why they’re good for families

If you can afford it then the family friendly rooms at this hotel are second to none for younger families but the main reason I would stay here is the outdoor pool and garden-making this hotel best for a summertime stay.

Parco deo Principi Grand Hotel & Spa

About

This is another 5 star hotel option with outdoor pool but they’re a little cheeky as they ask for an extra fee if you use the outdoor pool. The hotel is old world traditional Italian.

Location

The hotel is located in the upmarket suburb of Parioli just next to the park of Villa Borghese. It is about a 20 min walk to The Spanish Steps so not the most central of locations and you will probably end up getting taxis to and from some sights. It’s a handy location if you have young children that need a park to burn off some energy. Villa Borghese Park is lovely and absolutely huge. You can rent bikes for all ages, rent boats to row around the lake, go to the Bioparco Zoo or go to the playground.

Rooms

They have triple share rooms or can create family suites that will sleep 5 people by joining together a superior suite with a superior room.

The location next to the attractions of Villa Borghese Park also make it a good option for those with active kids.

Location

The location is definitely the star at this hotel. It is literally a few steps from the Pantheon and a 5 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain. There are lots of shops and restaurants around this area so it’s a very convenient place to stay. Rooms can get a little street noise as it is a busy area.
