Villa Resorts are the perfect blend of a hotel and a villa. They have the facilities of a hotel-a restaurant, a main pool and a spa but you still get the space and privacy of a villa-the best of both worlds!
This award winner is my favourite due to its beachfront Seminyak location, its service and its design aesthetic. It’s recently been renovated and the 1 bedroom beachside pool villas are now definitely the pick of the accommodation. Breeze Beachside restaurant is also one of my favourite beachside restaurants and is fantastic for a sunset drink and a quick bite to eat even if you don’t stay here. They do also have 2 and 3 bedroom villas better suited to groups or families- the 2 bed villas can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children and 3 bed villas can accommodate up to 6 adults and 3 children. Both these villas are located across the road from the beach at their Royal Courtyard complex. They do have golf carts to whip you across the road to the beach within 2 minutes.
The Samaya Spa is also worth a look-it has fantastic ocean views and 4 couples treatment rooms.
Samaya offers a range of extras such as your own private butler, daily yoga classes, breakfast and afternoon tea-these can be served in your villa or at The Breeze Restaurant and private car service within Seminyak area. Perfect if you want to be dropped at the shops or at your favourite restaurant although so much is within walking distance of The Samaya that you may never need this service.
I like this villa resort as its walking distance to the shops & restaurants of Ubud but feels a million miles away when you sit on your balcony looking out over the paddy fields. The private pool villas are luxurious and private. They have 1 bedroom and 2- bedroom villas with some of the 2 bedroom villas being perfect for families. There is also a fantastic 3 -bedroom residence, The Bisma Residence, with its own private entrance and 3 free standing master bedroom pavilions with their own ensuites. It really feels like a luxury hideaway in the jungle and all the pavilions are well spaced out making this a great option for 3 couples. I sent my parents and their friends to stay here recently and they loved the feeling of privacy and luxury.
This villa complex sits within the larger Ayana Resort so you get the benefits of the resort- the world famous Rock Bar, spectacular white sand beaches accessed by funicular, award winning Spa on the Rocks and a myriad of dining options, but can then slip away to your own private pool villa. The 1 bedroom ocean front pool villa is perfect for couples as is secluded with superb views or there is also the 2 bedroom oceanview or oceanfront villa that will suit families of up to 6 people. The style of these villas is more traditional Balinese and all have private gardens as well as ocean views.
The villas enjoy personalised butler service, buggy transport to get you around the large resort and preferred access to the Rock Bar so you don’t have to wait in the queue to get the inclinator down to the famous bar perched dramatically over the ocean.
Ayana is the best of these resort villas for families as they have 2 Kids Club within their extended resort-one at Ayana and one at Rimba with different programs so there is just so much for kids to do.
The Spa complex here is also incredibly impressive with their Thermes Marins Bali spa being voted worlds best spa by Conde Nast readers.
This villa resort clings to the cliffs of Uluwatu and both the design of this hotel and the location are truly spectacular. The sunset cabana literally hangs over the cliff and I must admit to a touch of nerves every time I walk into the cabana and look over the edge. I usually come here for a meal even if not staying here as I love their casual restaurant, The Warung, specialising in traditional Indonesian food. You have the choice of sitting at long communal tables or private tables for 2 and can see into their open kitchen.
The resort has 1,2 or 3 bedroom pool villas and the design is very modern chic. This is a great place to get away from it all and truly relax and I would really recommend this resort as an adults only retreat rather than a great place to come with the family. This is a very popular place for weddings and understandably so as the spectacular location and architecture would make for a wedding to remember.
This is the Grand Daddy of Bali resorts. It is typical St Regis with a feeling of old world luxury. The resort has a great beachfront location in Nusa Dua and has a choice of luxury suites and villas.
There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas with pools and access to either the Lagoon or the oceanfront. The 1 bed villa takes up to 3 people, the 2 bed villa takes 6 and 3 bed villa takes 9. All villas come with the fantastic St Regis 24 hour butler service- your butler can unpack your bags, book you into restaurants, spas, tours as well as advise you on what to do.
St Regis has also become justifiably famous for its Astor Diamond champagne Sunday brunch so even if you don’t stay here it is worth coming to Kayaputi Restaurant for the decadent spread but it often books out so book ahead.
The St Regis is also a great option for families with the beautiful beach, huge pool complex and Kids Club or as they call it the Childrens Learning Center and their activities are quite education focused.
